The last day of my work experience

Today is Friday, the last day of my work experience in Ashfield library.

On the morning, there was a different activity: Author Talk and The author was Deb Abella. This time, the activity was held in level three in a big meeting room and there was three primary schools of students from around about grade five coming for the talk, the only school I knew was Ashfield Public School. At about 10.20am, all of the schools were finally came and satted down, the room was nearly full. Alex told us that there were almost 250 kids. The whole activity went for about 45mins. The author, Deb talked about many of her stories and some series of her books. Some questions were also asked by the students during the talk. After the whole activity, James and I helped them put their books back to the van by using a trolly. There were almost four boxes of the books, which were very heavy.
At the afternoon, after had our lunches, we firstly helped Ray fixed up the printer problem and then started our work as helping Alex to replace the old poster by the new ones in the children's section. It was an easy work and we finished it very quickly. After arranging some books for about an hour, I started by blog again.
10 days of work experience had almost passed, all of the works were very special to me and some of them were also quite fun, I also learnt a lot from the series of activities. I have to thank all the staff members, such Alex, Angelina and Ray for helping us during these 10 days.

The 9th day of Work experience

Today is Thursday, the 9th which is also the second last day of my work experience in Ashfield library.

On the morning, there was a similar program as last week in Harberfield library which was the story time for kids. Firstly, Angelina started a song and a few stories with a group of little kids. This time ,there were a lot more people than it was in Harberfield. After had a few little familiar songs, the first story time was over, and some kids went back with their parents. After about half of an hour, the another storytime started for another age group. This time was Alex and Mel's turn to tell a story. The told a same story as we were in Harberfield, which was about recycle and garbage, between the stories, they also had some little songs as well. And after the story, the kids with the help of their parents started colouring again.

Because that the Christmas is coming soon, after our lunch, Alex told us to do some Christmas decoration. After we got two boxes of decorations such as bells, we started our work. James and I first started at the front desk, we decorated the shelf, the desk and the monitors with colourful decorations and bells. After that, we moved onto the children's section and decorated some on the board. Afterwards, we found some big shining stars in the box and began the work on the stars. We made the stars into their shapes and tied a string on them which allowed them to be hanged. Then we went up and helped Frances did some present wrapping. Our wrapping skills were very bad, and therefore, we did not finish many.

Similarly, after that, I started by blog again.

The seventh and eighth day of WE

On the 7th day of my work experience, I started with service desk again in Ashfield library. It was just the similar things and this time, James and I did the children's section, which had coloured labels on the book. On the afternoon, we did another new work which was weeding books. This work needed to find the books from a sheet by their names and put them into a trolly. During the weeding, we also needed to tidy up the books by their order. Order the books first might also help to find the needed books easier. After I finished, we had almost two chollies of books.

On the 8th day of my work experience, I did service desk again. Today was with Venessa. Service desk is very easier now, but just need a lot of energy. For the whole day, we were doing on the teenager's section and at the afternoon, similarly, we started our blogs again.

The start of the second week

This is the start of the second week of my work experience in Ashfield library. On the morning, the activities was mainly in Harberfield branch library, and therefore I walked over there at the start.

Today activities in Harberfield was about an morning tea of old people. As I arrived in Harberfield library, James and I helped the old people to have their names done and shown. After that, the morning tea started. We waited beside and took some photographs of them as well as us. During the morning tea, some also gave out speeches about the community. The morning tea went for about an hour and after that, we helped the staff to put the tables and chairs back, then arrived back at Ashfield.

On the afternoon, we firstly helped Alex to stampe the new books and stick the barcode on them. These books were those we bought on last Thursday. We did a few shelfes of books and after that, we did some cutting work for Alex. The time went by fast and I started my blog again.

fifth day of work experience

Today is the last day of this week's work experience in Ashfield Library.

On the morning, we started our day with Alex for toy buying. We parked the car in Summer Hill and went into a toy shop. There were many toys in the shops, including toy cars, puzzles, chesses etc. Our main aim was to buy some solid toys without batteries not small and do not have many pieces. James and I selected some toy cars and Alex also selected some board games and chess games. We had a look around for about an hour and finished with almost four boxes of toys which was a lot.

At the afternoon, we started the work in library. After I found some books for Ray, then I went to help James to pack letters for other people. Then, we continued with Service Desk with Ray. This time, we were arranging the non-fiction section and started from 000. Ray told us that the numeric arranging system was created by a librarian, it helps people find the book easier. After about half hour, I began by blogging again.

The fourth day of work experience

Today is the fourth day of my work experience and Alex and us went to the State library for a meeting.

On the morning, we travelled to the State library by train. The State library is established in St James, next to the Parliament House and the Hospital. The meeting was about multiculture, and therefore, we did not went to the library building, instead, we went to a meeting room. As we were there, the meeting was already started, we sat on the front row of chairs and started listening as guests. The meeting was quite long, which was all about the arguments and issues on the books of different languages and the online search which related to it.

After going for about one and half hours, the meeting came to an end. Then it was tea time. Many people joined together and had some conversations. James and I had a few slice of sandwich and some orange juice, they were nice.

At around about half past one, the tea time ended and people started to leaving. Following Alex, we went to a book store and bought some books for the library as well as some ESL students. There were dictionaries and comic books. The whole program to St James was coming to an end by now.

Today, I learnt many things about the different libraries around NSW, how are they working together, and what was the meeting like. It was quite useful.
